From Brett Naucke: Blog Assignment #1

i found this class looking for classes to fill certain credits that i needed. Cultural studies stuck out more than most because its something i feel very concious of, however have not really formally learned anything about outside of what you learn from everyday life and experiences.
I dont know how one would say "im very cultural" or "im not very cultural" however i grew up in a melting pot of races, none of which being my own in south city st. louis and the west side of philadelphia. Spending much of my life around cultures having nothing to do with my own has only made me more interested in cultural studies and formally learing about it at school/institution. Since i was very young, i have had many experiences i never would have had i not been exposed to people who had different customs, interests, lifestyles, beliefs , etc. Being from a family which embraced different cultutre other than ours opened up my mind a lot. Already, i am exited about the class. group discussions are about the only time i can somewhat express myself in a classroom without feeling very timid. it is also a good way to see where people are coming from and learn things about them. Because of the city , and the school, it is already obvious that this class will have a full spectrum a veiws and ideas when it comes to topics were discussing which i am also very exited to hear.
