Besides what the class might have heard me say about why i chose to take this class... culture is everywhere, like we said, and we can't get away from it. Being a Filipino American, I have the great experience of being a part of 3 different cultures in a way: North American culture, traditional Filipino culture, and Filipino American culture. Still finding aspects of my cultures fascinating and interesting, I've recently become friends with people from Brazil, the Dominican Republic, and Turkey (my boyfriend is also half Japanese) and I'm really just interested in the different ways that people of different regions live their lives. It amazes me how something weird/disgusting/bizarre to me (an American) can be totally normal and everyday in another part of the world. And as much as the U.S. way of life is mine, I'd like to learn a little more about the other few billion people out there.
I also love class discussions that can get quite heated (minus the negativity & personal attacks).
