Blog Numero Uno!

Hi all! Let me introduce myself. My name is Patti Hanc and I'm taking Public Relations as my major.
There are a few reasons why I'm taking this Introduction to Cultural Studies course.
Here it is: First and foremost, I'm taking this course because I need to take a Humanities credit for general education purposes. I admit this isn't the first thing I think about when I wake up in the morning. I do appreciate that I have to take different general ed courses to broaden my horizon. I looked at all the possible courses that were available to me and this course grabbed my attention. I then looked at all the professors who were teaching this course and Emily was rated with the most positive feed back.

The second reason is I want to have a better understanding of what culture consists of. Different cultures around the world has always fascinated me. I never realized that our own culture has so many sub-cultures, rituals, and practices that we apply to our daily lives. I guess you can say I'm a naive about this topic. I blame my upbringing for sheltering me to know my very existence. Breaking down the parts and pieces that make us who we are can answer many unsolved questions. I'm intrigued to know more about this particular subject and I hope to gain different perspectives from this course.

The third and last reason is the first day of class. I was impressed by the article and the response from it. I feel like this will be a open and rewarding class to take. The different theories and comments that our class will discuss has me interested to see how this will turn out. I believe this will change the way I see things and this will change the way I think. I have a feeling I'm not the only one who feels that way.

I believe culture is a practice which we live by. It's our surroundings, it's our lives and it's what makes us different from others. Culture can be determined by the way we eat from the way we smell, to the way we live our lives. It's the art that is created and it's the art that we see. I personally think it's every part of our existence. Culture is life and it's how we live it.
