Eria Lucas: Why I chose this class

I was actually a Biology major before I tranfered, I wanted to go to Columbia because I also love art and am very artisitc and wanted to experience a new surrounding than just books and science. I love science though, so i decided to have cultural studies as my major because I thought it would be helpful for my studies and altimantely, my carreer. My dream is to be able to travel and be a science researcher in different countries around the world, mainly poverned and poorly governed and bad enviornmental conditions. I want to study the enviornment and people and research why there are certain discease and envirnmental and biological illnesses and deformities in people and animals around the world. I figured Cultural studies would help me be more intune to diffenerent people and living. Besides this, I also want to join the Peace Corps after college, and this class could also help towards that. I wanted to get a lot out my cultural studies classes durinf my years at columbia because I am very interested in differences in people beacause of their culture and it will help me with understanding them when I also have to do more of the clinical stuff in science.
